Project summary

Designing for sexual health presents it's own set of special challenges. The audience is more likely to consist of the socially marginalised; sex workers, those who speak English as a second language or those with below average education. They're also more likely to be suffering high levels of anxiety as they self-diagnose and seek treatment.

Within this context we chose a mobile-first approach, understanding the personal and time-sensitive nature of our user's enquiry. Accessibility, plain language and helpful content were also key.

The highlight of the platform was the the 'Am I At Risk' tool. A form of 'digital triage', getting this right was important because it helped the clinic provide a more accurate service to key clientele; while reducing lower-tier enquiries. Executing this in a way that onboarded high-risk clients while deflecting those at lower risk was a sensitive and challenging task.

The 'Am I At Risk' tool needed to funnel those in need to the clinic and triage other groups out. It also needed to encourage action without creating panic.
